Through Bob Davies’ Eyes

Recollections of Bellthorpe

Take a walk through time with Bob Davies as he reflects on his years growing up at Bellthorpe during the 1950s. In his own words, Bob shares vivid stories of the rugged mountain lifestyle, winding roads, dairy farming hardships, dances at the hall, local characters, school memories, bushfires, cyclones, and the timber industry that shaped the region. From riding ponies overland from Kenmore to helping run the family farm during droughts, Bob’s tales bring the spirit of Bellthorpe’s pioneering families to life.

Memories in paint

Allis Chalmers winder sitting on a tree stump and winching logs up the side of the mountain.
At the top hairpin corner of the range, traffic was brought to a halt for hours while logs were loaded and prepared for their journey to Chermside, where they would be sawn into house timber to support Brisbane’s post-war housing boom.
